3 Ways To Skip The Hustle In Your Transportation Biz

September 12, 20235 min read

What would it look like for you to skip the hustle in your transportation business? Is it something you can imagine?

How do you feel about the word “hustle”? Does it evoke sensations of stress, hurried action, and frantic decisions being made? Do your muscles tense and feel worn, and your teeth clench together in determination?

Are You A Slave To Notifications?

I've shared how and why I got started in the personal transportation industry in previous blog entries. On paper, it checked all the boxes for what I felt I needed to build a new and more healthy lifestyle for myself. You may be in this line of work for the schedule flexibility so you can earn on your own terms. And while I can show you how to make that a reality now, it didn't start out that way for me. What I didn't understand in the beginning was how the opportunities to earn money and serve would also lead me to a new and different type of stress. The stress to the hustle. Are you there now?

Excitement or Anxiety

When I began my personal transportation business I was partnered with three app services that would refer clients or rides to me. As soon as a notification would come through to my phone, I jumped, ready for the task! My blood pressure would rise. I'd feel the excitement and drop whatever I was doing to open the message or the app to see what opportunity awaited. It was thrilling just the idea that someone needed me to help them and that I was able to choose if I was available to help them. It made me feel special and important.

I'm sure you know how the story goes next. Not long after, the excitement had faded to actions of checking the apps constantly and thoughts of scarcity. The blood pressure spike wasn't from the stress of wanting to take action quickly to capture the opportunity anymore. Now the blood pressure rise was stress and worry. Was this opportunity going to fit my schedule and was the pay going to equal a profit?

What happened to change the feeling of excitement to the feeling of scarcity?

The hustle.

What It Takes To Skip The Hustle

I've been in your shoes. I understand that it gets exhausting sometimes to feel like you always need to be available and on the go. Maybe the whole reason you chose the personal transportation industry was because you wanted more genuine downtime. Still, your financial goals require “doing the rides”, so how do you skip the hustle?

Define Your Needs

In my free workbook, the Top 3 Secrets To A Profitable Transportation Business, I guide you through naming and getting very clear about what you need in your personal lifestyle before you set out to make any decisions about your work schedule availability, your income needs, or who you will serve.

What I learned through trial and error is that in order to feel satisfied and in alignment with the work that I do, I needed to make sure my personal needs are met first. You might think that income should be at the top of your list, and I did too, but it turns out that working just to make the dollar isn't a sustainable practice to have overall satisfaction.

Having the answers to these questions eliminates the burden of squeezing in your needs around what your work allows you. This is a big mindset shift for some.

Work Smarter, Not Harder

Making the decision to build your work around your life is scary to some. You might know that you need to have more time and financial independence but feel that breaking away from apps and employment is too risky.

What I've discovered is a way to skip the hustle of working for app services so that you're able to get genuine rest, participate in activities you enjoy, and have a real connection with the people you love. The best part is that you can do it without the tension or anticipation that a notification will interrupt you.

When you use my free workbook, the Top 3 Secrets To A Profitable Transportation Business, you'll uncover how to give your best service including when, where, why, to whom, and what you need to charge to meet those goals. It doesn't have to be complicated to earn what you need and work around your lifestyle. You simply need to make decisions and take action.

Surround Yourself With People That Believe In You

Have you ever heard the expression that you are the reflection of the five people closest to you?

When you evaluate who you look to for guidance, support, encouragement, and inspiration, are those people included in the five people that are closest to you? If not, this part of skipping the hustle will be very important for you.

While I'm not saying to drop your friends and loved ones, I do recommend that you become involved in a community of like-minded people or people that have achieved what you aspire to, and then interact with them on a regular basis. When you have active relationships with people that are taking actions similar to yours or with people that have already overcome the obstacles you are facing you're given feedback and solutions instead of well-meaning advice not related to your industry or looks of confusion.
